Android Beta Installation Instructions

1) Watch for your invite email

After you’re approved for the beta, Google will send you an email invitation from "Pistol Boundaries (via Firebase App Distribution)" <firebase-noreply@google.com> with instructions and a button/link to Get Started.”

*** IMPORTANT *** Please open this email and complete installation on the Android phone you plan to use for Pistol Boundaries (phone-only beta; tablets and web not supported).

  • If you don’t see it, check Spam and Promotions (or “Updates”) folders.

  • If it still doesn’t show up, you can still install App Tester manually (next step).

2) Install Google's Firebase App Tester & Pistol Boundaries

App Tester is an official Google beta-testing app.

  1. Follow all the prompts to grant permissions to App Tester in order for it to function properly

  2. When prompted to “Install this app?” tap "Install"

3) Open Pistol Boundaries and complete onboarding

  1. Open Pistol Boundaries

  2. Follow the on-screen steps to sign up and complete onboarding

  3. When you reach the plan selection screen, choose Free to finish onboarding ***Important*** You must select Free even if you plan to use Plus features in the Beta

  4. Email support@pistolboundaries.com to let us know you have installed the app and are ready to start testing.

4) We’ll upgrade your account to Plus

After you finish onboarding, a Pistol Boundaries team member will upgrade your beta access to Plus

5) Close and reopen Pistol Boundaries

Once you’ve been upgraded:

  1. Close the Pistol Boundaries app completely (swipe it away)

  2. Reopen Pistol Boundaries

This helps the app pick up your new "Plus" access.

6) Allow required permissions

When prompted, please allow:

  • Location Access: there are 2 steps … first choose to allow access while using the app, and then choose Allow all the time and Use Precise Location

  • Physical Activity: choose Allow so that alerts work properly

  • Notifications: choose On so that alerts are sent to your phone

If you accidentally chose “Don’t Allow,” you can fix it:

  • Go to Settings → Apps → Pistol Boundaries

  • Turn Notifications On

  • Set Permissions → Location to Allow all the time and Use Precise Location

  • Turn Physical activity to Allow
